Entitlements under the Act
Sec 3 : Persons belonging to Priority Households shall be entitled to receive 5Kgs of foodgrains per person per month at Rs. 3 per Kg for rice and Rs.2 per Kg for wheat. Those households covered under Antyoda Anna Yojana shall be entitled to 35Kgs of foodgrains per household per month at Rs.3 per Kg for rice i.e Targetted Public Distribution System.
Sec 4 : Every pregnant woman and lactating mother shall be entitled to one free meal during pregnancy and six months after childbirth through the local anganwadi i.e Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS)
Maternity benefits of Rs 6000 in instalments
Sec 5(a) : Every child in the age group 6 months to 6 years shall be entitled to a free meal through the local Anganwadi (ICDS)
Sec 5 (b) : Children upto Class VIII, or within the age group 6 to 14 years shall be entitled to one mid day meal free of charge everyday, except on school holidays in all schools run by local bodies, Government and Government aided schools.
Sec 6 : Free meals to be provided to children who suffer from malnutrition
Sec 8 : In case of non supply of entitled quantities or meals to entitled persons, such persons shall receive food security allowance from the State government
Sec 14 : Every State Govt Shall put in place an internal grievance redressal mechanism including call centres, help lines, designation of nodal officers etc.
Sec 15 : Each district shall have a District Grievance Redressal Officer (DGRO) for expeditious and effective redressal of grievances
Appeal: Any appeal against the orders of the DGRO’s shall be filed before the State Food Commission
Sec 20 : The State Commission have all the powers of a Civil Court while trying a suit under CPC.
Sec 33 : Penalty: Any public servant or authority found guilty, or failing to provide the relief recommended by DGRO shall be liable to penalty not exceeding five thousand rupees.
